This elongated and elegant diamond shape is most commonly perceived as a side stone or set in a row on eternity bands. However, the Baguette cut diamond is significantly longer and larger looking when compared to any other step cut diamond type (Emerald, Asscher and Carré cut diamonds). And while the extremely elongated shape of the Baguette cut diamond is the reason this diamond shape is priced higher than its step cut competitors, it is still a great investment because it appears 20-30% larger to the eye.

The top diamond shown here is a 0.77 CT Baguette Diamond and below it is a 0.75 CT Emerald Diamond almost identical in weight  :

The lower depth of the Baguette Cut Diamond is compensated by its extreme length, resulting in a much bigger appearance. This 0.77 CT Baguette is 6.8 mm in length - way above the length of the 0.75 CT Emerald shown above and even higher than the average length of a 1 CT Emerald Cut Diamond (6.5 mm average length per 1 CT).

Keep in mind the Baguettes have sharp corner edges, (unlike the chamfered edges of an Emerald Cut Diamond), meaning they should be carefully set and protected in a ring made by a highly skilled and experienced jeweler.
